A quick google search will turn up various definitions of 'nani', and some are even new to me.
But here is the story of 'nani' on my end:
Once upon a time, I was obsessed with Hawai'i, and I had a soap and lotion sort of venture going on. I was in the process of changing the company's name, and 'nani' ended up filling the space. The name stuck, the company changed. Originally I found that nani meant beautiful, or beauty--later on I realized it was also a term for grandmother.
Why lotus?
If a lotus flower encompasses all parts of the spiritual experience --or a rising from the muck to become something beautiful --well, 'nani' continues to describe what emerges. It's sort of the flower counterpart to the mythological phoenix rising.
The grandmother part is just a bonus, really, because my grandmother, Rita, was very much not just a part of my life, but also an enrichment to my spiritual life.
To me, tapping into this feminine aspect while exploring the lotus of all of ourselves enhances our health and healing. The archetype of 'mother' or 'grandmother' is usually one of caring kindness, and don't we all deserve this?
Thus... we are all the beautiful lotus, we are all nani, we are all Nani Lotus.
